The Konstantin Sofianos Scholarship amount for 2016 currently stands at R25,000 (ZAR).

Applicants must already have been accepted to the Honours programme at the English Department at the University of Cape Town (UCT) before submitting their application to the scholarship.

Submissions will be considered based on the strength of a written literary essay on a particular topic chosen by the scholarship committee. Please note: the essay topic for 2016 applications has not yet been released. It will be posted here when submissions open on 15 November 2015.

To have your application considered, the foundation will require:

  • A copy of the applicant’s scholarship essay,
  • proof of acceptance to the UCT English Honours programme for 2016,
  • academic transcripts and a copy of the applicant’s CV, and
  • a written agreement that the winning essay may be published on the foundation website along with a short profile of the winner.

More details to follow by 15 November 2015.

The closing date for submissions (for the academic year starting in February 2016) will be 10 January 2016.

Essays will be screened by a carefully selected panel of readers; thereafter, shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in Cape Town at UCT in the last week of January 2016.
